Lost in Vancouver

And I almost forgot!

A while back I promised Steve a picture of one of the billions of fat little squirrels that are scurrying around the city. Here's one for you, showing how they get so damn fat. It's a bird feeder that he's in...the little bastard

Another shot

Hmm... this one's pretty clear... must have been early in the evening. See what I mean about taking the pictures... you don't have to be in the pictures.

Still no comments...

So here's another pic from the other night. Drunk ladies at the Oasis... yup, that's me in the middle.

Ah yes... as the evenings go on, the pictures get fuzzier. I think that's probably a good thing.

No Comments today

As you can see, I have no comments right now, but hopefully will tomorrow. I guess you can't complain too much about these free services, but I think I'm going to be looking around for someone else who is accepting new sign ups. In the meantime I'll just stick it out.

Here's a couple of pictures from the other night with Richard and Becky (the Mancs)... have some good ones on the camera right now, but unfortunately I didn't bring my cable with me, so I can't upload right now.

Yup... a bunch of drunks... that's what we are. The partying pictures of yours truly are few and far between - one of the benefits of operating the camera - but there are a couple coming. Honest.

Referrer Files

Can someone please explain to me how this page comes up second on an MSN search for "twat trimmers"?

Bits and pieces

As mentioned previously, work has been pretty nuts this last week. On top of that, friends arrived Thursday night from Manchester and have been on a massive party run ever since. Between work and entertaining them I've barely had time to breathe. I did however find time to bring B out to the folks' place for an evening. Yup, I feel much better now that I'm not obsessing about it. I think it was probably just nerves.

The weather has been brilliant and I'm really hoping to be able to get out and enjoy it soon, but lately I've been so beat it's been a dvd here and there before crashing out. I did finally see Donnie Darko , which has become my new favorite bizarre film. Also caught Ghost World , which I'd recommend, The New Guy , which I'm not sure I'd recommend, and something else that has completely slipped my mind.

I've been doing more playing with the digital camera and I really am going to get some pictures up here soon. I'm still figuring some things out, but I have to show off my new haircut, so I'd better get it all sorted in the next little while.

My brother's wedding is in just under two weeks, so getting together (read: making) all the decorations is going to suck up a lot of time over the next week or so... bows, bows and more bows. I'm glad that they wanted it simple. Oh god... I haven't even got anything to wear yet! You know what that means... yup... shopping this weekend. It'll be four days off in a row for this girl, as Tuesday is a holiday (Canada Day) and I've booked Monday off as well. Wow, since I'm taking Friday to fly out for the wedding, I'll actually only be working 2 days next week. Heaven.

I'm not going to get into a ton of details of the past week because that would be too boring, but here are some random observations:

It is bad to go to bed at 5:30 and then have to work at 9:00.

It is worse to then have to work until 8:00 pm.

Drunk Mancs are hard to understand.

Drunk Vancouverites are also hard to understand.

Leaving a digital camera around drunk Mancs and Vancouverites can lead to some very funny pictures.

It can also lead to some very blurry pictures

It sucks when work is busy and people are sick.

Some men will actually go and buy new clothes to meet a girl's parents.

Some men look very, very good in their new clothes.

Wedding planning is very tiring, even when it's not your wedding.

As much as I love my friends, it's nice to have a night off from them.

That's all for tonight...I think I'm going to get a decent sleep because tomorrow is going to be another long day.

Oh crap, my connection isn't working so I guess you'll see this tomorrow.

Night all.

Didja miss me?

The last week has been absolutely crazy... Haven't had a chance to do anything besides work and sleep. It seems to be calming down a bit so regular service should be resuming shortly. Will be back later tonite.

I've decided

Happy Friday!!

For a Friday the 13th, this has been a pretty good day so far. Got a letter from Revenue Canada last night regarding my tax audit - it's finally resolved and they actually owed me money! That's 9 months of stress finally over. I swear I feel like a ton of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Woo Hoo! .

Spent part of last evening going over decorations for my baby brother's wedding and it all looks good. Won't take nearly as long as I anticipated, and we're going to be able to set up Friday morning, so we'll actually be able to hit the Stampede on Friday night.

Going to spend the weekend at the Dragon Boat Festival which looks like it will be a lot of fun. A friend of B's is racing and B has managed to get the weekend off. Hell it looks like the weather might not be too bad either.

To top it all off, it feels like this bronchitis/laryingitis/cough thing is finally fading (knock wood). I don't think I've felt this positive about things in a long time. It's a great feeling!

Porn studies

In my daily reading, I come across the occasional study discussing the physiolocial effects of exposure to pornography, most of which I'm sure you're all aware of. Today I stumbled onto something a little more interesting... fish porn (safe for work). I'd hate to be the guy making the measurements for the study... or any porn study really. "Hmmm... yes, he appears to have ejaculated approximately 2 teaspoons more this time... rev up the hard core and let's see what that gets us."

You'll just have to read it for yourself. C'mon, you know you want to ...

How sad...

I was just reading here that Gregory Peck died last night in his sleep. I can remember watching To Kill a Mockingbird when I was a kid... I guess it must have been on television as I wasn't around when it was originally released. I thought that Atticus Finch must be the smartest, most wonderful man in the whole world. I watched the film again a few years ago and was still completely moved by Mr. Peck's character and his performance. I don't usually gush like this about actors but I think that we've all lost something special today.

Quote of the day

If assholes were clouds, we'd never see the sun.

Thanks to B's grandma for that ... I love it.

Nigerian email conference

My brother sent me this today. If you haven't seen it - and I may be the last who hasn't - it made me laugh. Out loud even.

Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water...

It's back! Okay, not Jaws, but my cough and laryngitis. So now I can't talk, my throat feels like I swallowed either broken glass or jagged rocks, and I'm coughing up my internal organs.

Damn! Damn! Damn! Am I going to have to spend the rest of the summer asleep in order to get rid of this damned thing? I hope not.

Anyone have any never fail cures for this kind of thing? I'm pretty much willing to try anything at this point.

Sunshine on my shoulders...

It has been an absolutely gorgeous weekend in the city and I feel somewhat bad about spending most of today inside watching movies and laying on the couch. It's not my fault really... last night was B's friend's birthday so of course he needed to be taken out... and take him out we did!

The difference between the various venues and their clientele was quite interesting to me. The initial stop was a sports bar where the crowd was primarily young, laid back and having a lot of fun. Conversations were loud and animated and there was a lot of laughter to be heard.

After a few hours waiting for everyone to arrive after work we headed off to our next stop *use caution when opening link... may not be work safe (sorry Paul)*. Not my first choice, but I'd heard a lot of things about the place and was very curious. It was actually a lot of fun, the staff was fantastic and I don't know how the hell those women can physically do some of the things they do. I swear that they were some of the (physically) strongest women I've ever seen.

The crowd there was really subdued which surprised me. Not a ton of talking or laughing going on there...all attention was on the stage most of the time. I think that our group was having a lot more fun then most of the guys there seemed to.

Final stop for the evening was for food and drinks at a local place that serves after hours. Since they break the liquor laws by doing this I'm not gonna include a link. At 2:30 in the morning most of the clientele was drunk and there were all kinds. It was like a drunken cross section of society.

It's amazing what a few drinks will do to encourage people who would never speak normally to become 'good buddies', at least for a few hours. Ah... alcohol: the cause of and solution to all life's problems.

Question: If you're heading out for the evening with friends, what's your favorite type of place to go? Loud? Quiet? Alcohol? Coffee? Dancing? What do you like best?

Accordion Lust

Toronto's very own Accordion Guy was interviewed this morning by a Charlotte, NC radio station. Sounds like he had a great time and it's worth reading about here. If you're not familiar with Joey the Accordion Guy you really should check out his site... Always worth the time.

Baby day

All right... I admit it: the nice weather has finally hit and I don't think that I'll be doing anything too new or fancy with the blog for a while. Updates: yes. Redesign: no.

It's 28 degrees today and absolutely gorgeous. Of course I won't actually get to enjoy it for a few hours, but still... its nice. I think perhaps this calls for a patio and some icy cold beverages.

Today a number of folks brought their babies into the office. I mean a bunch of people... it was like it was baby day or something. All the dads looking very proud and all the moms hoping that someone else will take the baby for a little while so that they can actually have lunch. Most of my immediate colleagues are women who flock to babies when they come in. Those with kids trade stories with the new moms and dads, while those without coo and talk about how adorable he/she is.

I've recently become one of those women I swore I'd never be... I want to hold the baby. There... I said it! I like to hold the babies and look at their little tiny fingernails and ears etc. They're all so perfect and so damn little...it just blows me away every time. Uh oh... do you know what this might mean? Oh god no... not the biological clock! Crap.

If anyone needs me I'll be on the patio pretending that I never said that.

Update June 6th: This baby thing is good for something... we're all leaving early today for a baby shower/late lunch for a colleague who's about to pop. Is it something in the water? It seems that everyone is pregnant!

I have decided

Tonite I'm going to update my links, try a couple of new things, upload some photos and generally whip this blog into shape. Yup... at least I'm gonna try. After I do all my washing up of course.

I don't know what to say about this...

Good News!

Dad had an angiogram this afternoon and as the doctors suspected, one of his arteries was partially blocked. They did an angioplasty to insert a stent to keep the artery open and it sounds like he should be able to go home tomorrow. I'm pleased that at least now we know for sure what's going on.

This is the second angioplasty he's had... the first was for a different blood vessel about a year ago. At that time he was training for a 10k run and felt the same discomfort so away to the hospital he went. I guess we're lucky that they seem to catch it before it leads to an actual heart attack.

I'm relieved... that's about all I can say.

Now that's patriotism!

The things people will do to support the troops.

I think I spoke too soon

Am back to feeling lousy again... sigh. I'm coughing like crazy and the only cough medicine that seems to help also makes me spacey as hell. Needless to say I don't think I'm going to be especially productive until this thing passes. On top of that, my dad has gone into the hospital and they won't let me visit until I'm over this thing!

I feel helpless and frustrated.

They don't know what exactly is wrong with him yet... he thought he had pulled a muscle in his chest, but apparently it's something a little more serious. They won't do any testing until they have a bed for him in a regular ward (he's been in an emergency ward bed since Saturday morning) and they won't let him leave until they do the tests. He is not impressed.

I don't expect that I'll be doing much posting until I'm feeling better as I just don't have any clarity in my thoughts right now, but I'll let you know what's going on with Daddy once I know something.
