Happy Halloween

After all my fussing and pissing around trying to get a costume together I actually feel like complete crap and will probably spend my Halloween curled up in front of the fireplace, drinking Neo Citron or some such drink. Drat, drat and double drat!

Another reason to get the camera out

Sh1ft.org is holding 26 Things2 in November and if you didn't do the last one, I highly recommend giving it a go. The list of items for the scavenger hunt will be up on November 1st and I'm ready to go!

More fire

A good friend of mine lives in San Diego, about 3 miles from where fires are raging. The pic below was taken from his deck... very scary.

Brushes with greatness boy bands

I've been aware for some time that my favorite local bar attracts a number of local sports personalities so I was not surprised to see a couple of my Canucks in there after a game last week. Nor was I surprised to hear that I had just missed one of my absolute all time favorite Canucks - Tiger Williams - last night. What did surprise me was looking over from our table and noticing a number of the waitresses sitting down and fawning over some blond kid in a T-shirt and a baseball hat. It seems that one fifth of a certain boy band is in town filming what I'm guessing will be a terrible movie. I'm not going to comment on his drinking habits or dance steps, but let's just say that he appears to enjoy funk and Dr Pepper shots. Before he left, he was kind enough to sign an autograph for Ms M's 10 year old niece who is now convinced that her auntie is god.

There you have it: my brush with... er... something.

Well it's now 3 days to Halloween and I still have not decided on a costume for the party. I don't want to completely lame out with a cat or a bunny (nor will I be caught dead in a body suit) but I can't seem to get motivated to put any effort into anything. Ah well, the last minute has always worked in the past.

I was planning on going to visit my brother and sister-in-law at the end of September, which got pushed back to October and is now mid November. I think they did it on purpose because they know how averse I am to winter in Calgary. Okay, it might not be an evil plot to freeze my ass off... but then again it might! It will also be Ramadan while I'm there so Ron won't be eating from dawn to dusk, nor is he drinking alcohol. Thank god Lejla isn't fasting - that whole pregnancy thing - but again, no drinking. Oh my god a dry weekend in the freezing cold? Nah... they wouldn't do that to me... would they?

Oh, I finally received my official Scaryduck Twunt mug and I must say that I'm the envy of all who have seen it. Now I'm just waiting for my fabulous order from T-Shirt Hell to arrive. There's nothing like giving someone a really offensive T-shirt for Christmas... don't you think?

Thy name is html. Okay, I've changed again... I was getting way to frustrated with the other template so I've decided that simplicity is where it's at. So much has been going on lately and I feel completely out of touch since I haven't been able to blog about it. Since it appears that things are fairly functional right now I think I'm gonna grab a bite to eat and compose my thoughts.

Slowly but surely

Okay, I've got everything working except the links across the top of the page so until I can figure out how to get my archives etc., working I'm gonna suggest that you just don't bother with them... unless of course you don't want to go anywhere, in which case, click your heart out.

Well since I lost the whole bloody thing anyway I figured I'd start with something new.

Just thought I'd let you know I'm alive... I'll check back in once I've figured out how to get my links working.

apparently my template has mysteriously disappeared and it has been quite some time since my last backup (yes, I know... I've learned my lesson) so bear with me as I correct all the links and set up the comments etc.

Well I don't know what the hell is going on here, but something is up with blogspot apparently and I'm a little annoyed. Okay, a lot annoyed. Where did my content go? It's here but I can't see it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

My tinfoil hat isn't working

So no, Mr Salesrep I didn't know that when you said you wanted part a, it actually meant part b ... again. I guess when I called you to confirm, sent you a written confirmation of your order and then followed up with you, it never entered your mind to mention that your customer actually wanted part b. Well, then I guess you're going to have to explain it to them. No, trust me, you really don't want me to tell them that the problem is that you're an incompetent fuck and I'm very sorry, but due to rampant nepotism it's unlikely you'll be fired.

Oh, hello Mr Engineer. No, I didn't know that we had managed to get some highspeed parts out of the last batch. Why didn't I know? Well, because they're not in the system and no-one told me. With you being in California and all, it's not like I can just pop into the lab every now and then to see if there's anything that you want to tell me. What? You need to get them shipped to Italy today? Really? Well, have you even set up the part number yet? No? Does the speed branding on the part match the actual? No? Hmmm... let me think about it... that means that you need to get it set up in the system and the customer has to sign a non-conformance waiver, so I'm going to go with : NO! Now go away and come back when you have your shit together.

I love my job; I love my job; I love my job. Can someone please pass the tequila? It's been a rough day.

Linky love

I finally decided to switch to Blogrolling rather than hardcoding all my links. Wow...this is so much easier! If I missed anyone let me know.

Welcome to the jungle rainforest

Fall has finally hit Vancouver. The beautiful sunny days and clear skies have been replaced by ongoing torrential downpours. Roads are flooded, basements are watery, roofs are leaking and there are umbrellas as far as the eye can see.

When people complain about the rain I always say "Well that's what keeps everything so green and pretty". I realized today that I really only say that when the weather is good. Sitting in traffic in the pouring rain tonight, as the minutes stretched into what seemed an eternity, I realized that I really don't like the city quite as much when it's grey and wet.

Oh well, only 6 more months. I might as well treat myself to a brightly coloured umbrella and get out there with everyone else. After all, despite how sweet I am, I'm not really made of sugar, so I won't melt.

When oh when oh when will this day end. I want to go home, relax, eat sushi and watch mediocre television until I fall asleep. Is that really too much to ask for? I didn't think so!

Vicious Cycle

I'm starting to think that my life is just a never ending cycle of excess and recovery.

Speaking of which, if anyone needs me I'll be napping under my desk.

Random Observations

With the right company one quick drink can easily become many
3 hours is not enough sleep
Especially when you have to work in the morning
Trains know when you're late
So do traffic lights
Water is good
Even adults need naps sometimes

I received confirmation via email that CafePress has shipped my official Scary Duck 'Twunt' mug. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. And I didn't even need to sell my arse like the lovely Zoe.

For those of you who don't know, Monday is Thanksgiving here in Canada and I know that I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a job that almost supports my lifestyle, a wonderful family, great friends and a tummy full of Tofurky (yes, my mom rocks and always cooks both carnivore and vegetarian feasts to keep everyone happy). No matter how much I bitch sometimes, I'm pretty lucky.

Peace and quiet

Sorta. At least the massive hammering in my brain has stopped and I can function again. I was looking forward to having a decent sleep last night, with the pain gone and all, but unfortunately my neighbours had other plans. How can people be some completely ignorant? Running, screaming in the halls numerous times between 1 and 4 am; Gate slamming at 2, 2:05, 2:20, 3, and on and on until about 4:30 am. I don't like them. Nope not at all. My suite isn't on the same floor or the same end of the building as theirs and they wake me up constantly... I feel really bad for the folks who are actually living next to them.

I've complained and I'm going to complain again... if you can't show a little common courtesy, get the fuck out of my building!

Please stop hammering that spike into my head...

I feel like my head is about to bloody explode and I don't like it very much so I'm going to whine about it here. I'm working from home today so that I can drug myself up and hope the pain goes away... it's not working too well yet, but I have faith. I need it to be gone soon because tonight is the Canucks season opener and I wanted to hit the pub to watch the game. I can't do that with this freaking pain in my head.

Okay, I'm done whining now, so I'm going to go pop some more painkillers and try to nap.

Feelin' groovy crafty

As the days get shorter and the rain hits Vancouver I tend to start thinking about things to do to fill the oh so gloomy evenings. This generally involves coming up with interesting craft projects that Ms M and I can finish (along with a bottle of wine) over the course of an evening. To that end, I've been researching some new projects for this year from the many wonderful craft sites out there.

I'm feeling positively inspired!

Ghosts and Ghouls

I received my first Halloween party invite today and now I have to think of a costume. In the past I've had made some pretty good ones (Pat and a devilled egg, to name a couple) so it has to be clever and not involve more than a few hours worth of work. I normally wind up finishing the costume about 40 minutes before the party but I'm not gonna be able to do that this year, with the 31st on a Friday.

So....anyone have any suggestions?

More wedding stuff

I just got a CD of all of the professional shots from my brother's wedding this past July and since I still haven't managed to get a wedding photo page together I'm sharing one of my favorites here.

Can you tell how much I love my not so little brother?

Why I live in Canada

Dear Mr Chretien... if you're serious about giving it a shot, head out west. You might as well experience B.C.'s largest export first hand, rather than going for some of that crappy government stuff.

The Fog

The last few days have tossed the city under a blanket of fog. It’s like every building and every person is completely insulated from everything else by the mist. Looking out the window last night I couldn’t see anything but the building directly across the street from me; it was like everything else just ceased to exist. The sounds are different too – everything was noticeably quieter, almost like during a snowfall.

I went for a walk down to Robson to pick up some mix at the store and it was both soothing and scary at the same time. On one hand I felt almost protected by the fog, while on the other, I felt somewhat ill at ease, not being able to see more than 20 feet in any direction.

It’s supposed to get foggier as the day goes on today... I think I like it.

Here pussy, pussy...

As promised, here is my cat picture...

Wednesday, October 01, 2003

It seems that Friday is The First Annual Post a Picture of a Cat to Your Blog Day.

I don't have a cat anymore, so I think I'm going to draw my own. Look out world, I've got MS Paint and I'm not afraid to use it!

Illiterate or ignorant... You be the judge

I have neighbours. Loud neighbours who can't read. How, you might ask, do I know they can't read? Well, I don't actually know for sure, but since they completely disregard the "Please don't slam the gate" and "Please respect your neighbours and be quiet in the halls after 11pm" signs and I'm sure they're not just rude pricks, I have to assume that they simply can't read.

There are a number of English students in my building, so maybe they just haven't progressed enough in their lessons to be able to read the English signs. Yup, that's probably it. So...Does anyone out there know how to translate my signs into Spanish, Japanese and/or Korean, because I could really use a decent nights sleep.
