Stolen from an email I received today.

With all your honor and dignity what would you do?

This test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation, where you will have to make a decision one way or the other. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and consider each line - this is important for the test to work accurately.

You're in Florida...In Miami, to be exact... There is great chaos going on around you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods...There are huge masses of water all over you.... You are a CNN photographer and you are in the middle of this great disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot very impressive photos. There are houses and people floating around you, disappearing into the water.

Nature is showing all its destroying power and is ripping everything away with it. Suddenly you see a man in the water, he is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away by the masses of water and mud.

You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. Suddenly you know who it is - it's George W. Bush! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him away...forever. You have two options.

You can save him or you can take the best photo of your life. So you can save the life of George W. Bush, or you can shoot a Pulitzer prize winning photo. A unique photo displaying the death of one of the world's most powerful men.

And here's the question: (Please give an honest answer)

Would you select color film, or go with the simplicity of classic black and white?

Bow down at the Altar of Technology

Brothers and sisters I am here to warn you about a terrible scourge that even now lurks among us. There are those out there who will try to convince you that your god is evil and cannot possibly be used for good. They will tell you that your god is responsible for the decline of family values. They will tell you that your god is responsible for adultery. They will tell you that your god is responsible for unemployment and homelessness. I beg of you … Do not listen to them.

Who are these people? Why my friends they are the New Luddites

Brothers and sisters do not fall into their trap. Do not let them into your hearts or your PDAs. I call upon you now to warn those you love about this threat. Pick up those mobile phones, fire up those laptops, enter that chat room and spread the word.

Can I get an amen!?

I'm a baaaad blogger

It seems that I barely have a second to myself these days. Between work, family, Canucks games and NFL playoffs I haven't actually sat down to blog in what feels like forever.

Today I am attending the funeral of my aunt who died in her sleep this week. Not a bad way to go. We weren't especially close, but she was family so it's going to be a sad service, followed I'm sure by copious amounts of alcohol. I think I feel more sad for my dad than anyone... she was the last of his big sisters and it has hit him rather hard. I suppose once you reach a certain age it isn't so surprising anymore, but I don't think it stops being upsetting.

Anyway, I'm off, but I promise to be a better blogger... really.

The party's over

The holiday season is officially over for me now. Last weekend we finally had our Christmas dinner and got to open gifts. Santa spoiled everyone rotten and we are all busy playing with our new toys. Santa was kind enough to bring me one of these this year (along with a number of accessories), so I no longer need to pester the parents for theirs. I think that’s what Santa had in mind. Next step is just to take down the tree, but I think I’m going to leave that for the weekend. This week is going to be busy watching the new movies that Ron and Lejla gave me, while listening to my Italian lessonsand practicing yoga poses, all while wearing my new clothes!

Yes, I was pretty darned spoiled.

How you've found me

Vancouver one night fuck: I don’t think I can help you out there… well I could, but I’d rather not. Perhaps if you speak with one of the ‘ladies’ at Seymour and Helmcken you may have better luck.

Justin Timberlake messy person: I’m not sure…you might want to check with Britney… assuming of course that she’s not in the middle of another wedding.

Vancouver rain: Uh yeah… just look outside and you’ll find it. If not, just wait 5 minutes.

Silly things in Vancouver: There are lots of those. I recommend starting at City Hall.

Bowen Island Wedding Sites: I’m afraid that all I can help with is Bowen Island drinking sites, sorry.

And for the 2 folks who visit regularly while searching for “Lost in Vancouver” and “Carlos and Buds Vancouver”… wouldn’t it be easier if you just book-marked me? Not that I mind of course… I’m just thinking of your valuable time.

I tend not to keep my New Year's resolutions and I'm not sure why that is. I start the year with excitement and determination to make positive changes in my life but by March I slide right back into all of my old habits.

This year I'm going to keep it simple. 2004 is the year that I will move towards a healthier life style. More time at the coffee shop and less at the pub; more cooking at home and less take out; more early mornings and less late nights; more exercise and less television. I'm not good with things like diet and exercise plans that say you have to eat this and do that. Strict regimentation doesn't work with my life, so I'm going to stick to the old adage, everything in moderation. Moderation is tough enough for me - I tend to do everything at eleven - without throwing in schedules and restrictions.

So that's it. As I sit here watching the snow and sipping my diet coke I'm pretty confident that I'll actually be able to keep my resolution this year. Come March I'll let you know for sure.

The weather outside is frightful...

Welcome to 2004 Vancouver... now get ready to freeze your asses off!

It has been unbelievably cold here since just after Christmas and I don't know how much more I can take. Right now it's -8C (-15 with the windchill) and snowing like crazy. Um, excuse me but this is the west coast... we don't get weather like that. That's one of the reasons that we live here... remember? Can we please make it stop now? Pretty please?

Update: Here's the latest from the weather page. Note the term "soggy wet mess".

An incoming Pacific storm is bringing snow today. By Wednesday the snow will turn to rain and the rain will keep falling straight through to Friday to turn everything into a soggy wet mess. Some localized flooding is likely during the middle of this week as the snow melts and the rain pours. Long range forecasts show that we may move back into a cold spell around the middle of this month.
